The best smart ovens for easy cooking and cleaning in 2025

Samsung 76L Built-in Pyrolytic Flex door oven.

01

Samsung 76L Built-in Pyrolytic Flex door oven

from $1699 (usually $1999), Samsung

Best for: an all-in-one oven

This oven does just about everything you could want – including cleaning with the pyrolytic function, which heats the oven cavity to burn off grease and residue. The result is a clean oven (save for some ash you can easily wipe away).

The cooking features are also the stuff of home chefs (or busy peoples’) dreams. If you wish to steam, you can steam. If you want to air fry, you can air fry. There’s even a dual cook option that allows you to cook multiple dishes at once, with different temperatures on the two levels of the oven. And a meat probe so you can get perfectly cooked roasts without needing to lift a finger.

All of this is supported by Samsung’s SmartThings Cooking app, which can help you set meal plans, guide the cooking process and even create shopping lists for you.

Key features:

  • Self-cleaning, pyrolytic system that burns away grease and residue
  • Dual Cook Flex has upper and lower zones so you can cook different dishes at the same time
  • Steam dishes in the oven by adding water to the bottom, which is then circulated for optimal cooking results
  • Air fry function means you won’t need to get a dedicated air fryer to make tasty, crispy foods
  • Air Sous Vide function to allow you to cook tender dishes in a dedicated sous vide bag
  • Smart LCD display with a single knob and the ability to display your frequently used options
  • Built-in f00d probe gives accurate temperature control and internal doneness indication
  • SmartThings Cooking app, includes recipe recommendations and weekly meal plans with personalisation

Miele oven with smart features like air fryer setting and automatic programming

02

Miele 60cm built-in oven CleanSteal

from $2430, The Good Guys

Best for: automatic cooking programs

Our favourite part of this oven is the automatic programs. If you’re in need of some assistance when it comes to timing or temperature, you can turn on the oven and get all the information you need. If you’re anything like us, that means less time spent on Google searches and more time cooking your vegies, baked dinners, cakes and everything else at the right temperature, for the right amount of time.

It also has an air fryer mode and an Eco Fan Heat for more energy-efficient cooking. While it doesn’t exactly clean itself, Miele has designed a PerfectClean finish for many parts of the oven and its included accessories, which has unique non-stick properties so all you’ll usually have to do is give them a light wipe down with a cloth or sponge.

Key features:

  • Automatic programs make it easy to cook a variety of dishes perfectly every time
  • PerfectClean, non-stick finish for easy cleaning of the oven, trays, shelf runners and other select components
  • Network-enabled wifi appliance with Miele@home
  • Clear text display with dials
  • Eight operating modes, including AirFry and Eco Fan Heat

What is a smart oven?

A smart oven has additional technological features compared to what you’d expect of a traditional oven. They’re designed to improve the cooking process so it is more convenient, efficient and precise, with features that may include:

  • Wifi integration, remote control from a phone app and voice commands
  • Self-cleaning functions
  • Pre-programmed cooking settings
  • Temperature sensors or probes for the food you are cooking
  • Built-in cameras that monitor the cooking process
  • In-built recipe library with suggestions for cook times
  • Integration with other smart home devices

Are smart ovens worth the cost?

Smart ovens can be considerably more expensive than normal wall ovens, because of their technological advances and additional features. So, as with every big kitchen purchase, you’ll need to consider how cooking comes into play when analysing whether it’s the right price.

If you love efficient, low-maintenance appliances, paying for additional ‘smart’ oven features may be a great option for you. A big budget means you’ll be able to splurge on an oven that prioritises convenient, customisable cooking. However, make sure to take advice from Choice kitchen expert Fiona Mair, who says, “Don’t expect a smart oven to turn you into an expert chef overnight.”

What’s the difference between a smart oven and a normal oven?

A normal oven may have some additional features, such as a pyrolytic setting, however, a smart oven will have many functions on top of changing temp and time. A smart oven is usually able to integrate with other technology, such as wifi, or have more intelligent tech built-in, like cameras, motion sensors and temperature probes.

Do countertop ovens have smart features?

Some countertop or benchtop ovens can have smart features, like additional function settings or an in-built recipe library. However, most countertop ovens operate the same as a normal wall oven and are just smaller and portable.
