What is the best fridge brand in Australia?
There isn’t one best fridge brand in Australia, because every household has different needs and each brand offers different styles, features and customisations. So we have researched key factors including designs, features, reliability, quality and reputation to come up with a list of 10 of the best brands available in Australia. In 2025, we’ve also added availability as a factor, because a top fridge brand is only as good as its range. Here’s more on our methodology.
LG

LG has a top-rated range of double door and multi door fridges to stylishly elevate your kitchen. In fact, it was awarded by Choice as an equal second for Best Fridge Brand in 2024, and equal first in similar Choice reports for 2023 and 2022.
The brand also has innovative features for different fridge models, such as SurroundCooling to keep your food fresher for longer, spacious interior configurations for easier storage of large containers and bottles, and InstaView technology that lets you see what’s inside with a simple knock on the glass. The latter has been a popular feature for customers, with one person describing it as a “game changer” in a five star review of the LG 624L French door fridge with InstaView on Appliances Online.
Some LG fridges also have high energy efficiency ratings. For example, the LG 530L Slim French door fridge is one of its most efficient French Door models, with a five star energy rating (out of 10) that LG states can save 19 per cent on annual energy consumption. And according to the government’s Energy Rating Calculator, it’s one of the top 10 most energy efficient fridges with a volume between 526-570L.
I’ve actually got an older model LG fridge that’s still running smoothly after 11 years – and three big home moves. It’s also held up well during several major blackouts in the past couple of years, so I’m hoping it stays with us for a long, long time.
Amy Bradney-George, Better Homes & Gardens writer
Keep in mind that, while you may find some fridges with similar or slightly higher energy efficiency ratings, anything above five stars is typically considered efficient for a fridge.

Westinghouse

Combining style with functionality, Westinghouse fridges are designed for the modern household with practical features such as FreshSeal crispers, convertible drawers, energy efficiency, filtered ice and water dispensers. They also have a good variety of styles, including French door, bottom mount (where the freezer is at the bottom) and top mount (where the freezer is at the top). In the 2024 Best Fridge Brand guide from Choice, Westinghouse also came in at number five on the list.
To give you an idea of what customers with Westinghouse fridges think, the Westinghouse 541L French door refrigerator has over 588 five-star reviews via Bazaarvoice Authentic Reviews, which are listed on Appliances Online. It also has over 240 five-star reviews via The Good Guys website.
“I would highly recommend this product! I just brought my first home and this was a beautiful addition to it! Very lovely on the eye and holds a lot of food and drinks,” one customer said.

Fisher & Paykel

A classic choice for whitegoods in Australia and New Zealand, Fisher & Paykel offers high-performance fridges with innovative features in different sizes to suit different families and kitchens. This includes bottom mount, French door, side-by-side and quad door options, as well as a range of fridges that can be customised to your cabinetry for a seamless kitchen design.
Customer reviews for Fisher & Paykel fridges often mention the design features as a highlight. For example, with the popular Fisher & Paykel 494L bottom mount refrigerator, one customer who gave a five-star review on Bing Lee shared: “This is my second Fisher & Paykel fridge. I liked the first one so much I couldn’t go past Fisher & Paykel when purchasing a new one. I am very happy with it. Inside space is very well arranged that things are easy to be seen and to reach for. I love the freezer being on the bottom as it saves me from bending to much when getting things from the refrigerator. Layout of freezer is really good too. I love the middle narrow shelf for small leftover bits.”
“Having owned the previous version of this F& P fridge [that] lasted 25 years it was an easy choice. Slick exterior with functional interior. Easy to adjust shelves & practically divided spaces in freezer & veggie compartments. No designated egg area which could be considered in future designs. Very happy with our new fridge,” another customer shared in a five star review on Betta.

Mitsubishi Electric

When you hear the name “Mitsubishi”, you might not think of fridges first, but the brand is considered one of the best on the market in Australia. It was rated number one in the Choice Best Fridge Brand report for 2024, but only some models score highly in analysis, as well as with customers. One factor to consider is the price point, which usually ranges from around $1500 to over $4700.
But if budget isn’t a factor, one model that has a high rating is the Mitsubishi Electric 700L French door fridge, which has five stars from 89% of customers who rated it via Bazaarvoice Authentic Reviews on Appliances Online (where it’s available in black, silver and white).
“My sister bought this fridge and she showed me all of the features. I was impressed then and more so since we bought one for ourselves,” one customer who left a five star review shared. “It’s such a well considered and thought out design. I should know – I’ve been in the building industry for over 50 years. I’m an accredited Architect working part time as I transition to retirement.”
Another customer who bought the mahogany version of this fridge (pictured here) said in a five-star review listed on Google: “It’s a stunning colour – we get so many comments on it. So much shelf space, awesome freezer space, just a great fridge. Never misses a beat.”

Samsung

Samsung has an impressive range of top mount, bottom mount, French door and side-by-side fridges to keep your food and drinks fresh. It also made it into the Choice list of Best Fridge Brands for 2024, ranking in fourth place. It’s also been developing connectivity and smart features that are actually helpful, like lists of what’s in your fridge and use-by date record-keeping for Samsung’s AI Family Hub fridges.
As an example of what customers think, we looked at a best-selling Samsung 648L French door fridge, which had a combined total of over 400 reviews across The Good Guys, Appliances Online and Bing Lee in 2025. And more than 319 of these were for a full 5 stars, including one where a customer said “Samsung leads the way” among fridge brands.
“This fridge freezer is amazing. I’ve always been a fan of the French-door style and this is a classy version, lots of shelf and basket room. Easy to keep clean and we love the ice-making facility. Having a jug of water on hand means I drink more water than I usually would and of course, it fills up automatically when placed back in the fridge.”
While the most popular Samsung fridges tend to be larger and high tech, some of the smaller models also offer great value for money. The 393L silver top mount fridge with ice maker, for example, stood out to us because of it’s streamlined design, removable internal ice maker (to save space in the freezer in winter) and relatively low price of $999. One customer summed it up by saying: “This refrigerator has exceeded our expectations in both performance and reliability!”

Kelvinator

Simple and straightforward, Kelvinator fridges are made in Australia for the local climate to keep your food and drinks cool. Kelvinator has been making fridges in Australia for over 80 years, which also means it’s one of the best-known fridge brands, stating that it “has built upon its trusted heritage to produce modern, easy-to-use fridges, perfect for Australian conditions”.
For example, the Kelvinator 256L top mount refrigerator has a humidity-controlled crisper to keep your fruit and veggies fresh, and a quick-freeze function that’s great for safe food storage. “I chose this fridge as I had previously had a Kelvinator and found it to be a good reliable fridge. Others have recommended Kelvinator. Although I have only had it a short time, looks like it will also be very reliable,” one customer shared in a 5-star review on Betta.
Another example is the highly-rated Kelvinator 503L top mount refrigerator, which has over 85 five star reviews via Bazaarvoice Authentic Reviews, which is used by Appliances Online (currently sold out).
“It is similar to my old fridge which I had for over 22 years,” one customer wrote in a verified five star review previously posted on The Good Guys website. “So easy to keep clean and the size is perfect for my needs.”
Unfortunately, there was limited availability for Kelvinator fridges when we updated this article in August, and then again in September 2025. So, we’ve factored that into the order of our list of the best fridge brands in Australia – because you actually need to be able to buy a fridge from the brand you choose.

Electrolux

Electrolux offers a range of fridges with innovative features like EvenTemp technology for consistent cooling and inverter systems for quiet operation and energy efficiency. It’s also the parent company of two of the other best fridge brands on our list: Westinghouse and Kelvinator.
To give you an example of how customers find Electrolux fridges, we looked at one of the best-selling models online. The Electrolux 609L French door refrigerator has over 1200 five star ratings via Bazaarvoice Authentic Reviews.
One customer who rated it five stars via Appliances Online shared a very detailed review: “After one month of use this fridge delivers what we expected. Plumbed through the door ice and water, French door configuration, multi-purpose individually temperature controlled pull out drawer, fridge internal layout which has many options for reconfiguration as needed are all strong positives. Some previous reviews indicated significant operating sound levels but we have found that although the fridge does make many different sounds, none are at a level that disturb our kitchen/family space.”
Another customer who reviewed it via The Good Guys, where it’s currently selling for $2799, said: “It’s our second Electrolux fridge. The original is still going strong and used for overflow for parties or a second drinks/deep freezer.”

What to look for when buying a fridge
Choosing the best fridge brand is one thing, but getting a fridge that best suits your home can be another. What we found when we researched the best fridge brands is that ratings can vary a lot depending on the model and style of fridge. So, while it can be helpful to focus on one or two different brands, here are some other important factors to consider that will help you find the right fridge for your home.
Size and capacity
Measure the height, width and depth of the area where you plan to put your new fridge and check these against the requirements of fridge models to make sure they will fit.
Adam Duggan, the category expert from Appliances Online told Better Homes & Gardens that this process is “one of the key things to ensure your fridge has a longer lifespan.”
“If you haven’t allowed enough space, the warm air released out of the fridge’s vents is going to struggle to circulate appropriately. If your fridge is sitting in a cavity that is essentially being heated, it’s going to hinder the performance of the fridge.”
Also consider the storage capacity you need based on your household’s size and appetite. “Every shelf should allow air to circulate through with ease. Constricting airflow by cramming things into available spaces might be a short-term convenience, but restricted airflow is another cause of motors wearing out,” Adam said.
Energy efficiency
Energy-efficient fridges can help save on electricity bills and are more environmentally-friendly. So it’s ideal to go with a model that has an energy rating of five or above. Also consider the size of your fridge, as a smaller fridge with five stars will still use less energy than a larger one with the same rating, according to the government’s Energy Rating website.
What is the most energy efficient fridge in Australia?
The Hisense 417L Bottom Mount Refrigerator is the most energy efficient fridge in Australia as of 4 August 2025. It has an 8-star energy rating and an estimated 10-year running cost of $911.73 according to the Australian government’s Energy Rating Calculator.
This closely beats the Haier 433L Bottom Mount Refrigerator, which was the first model in Australia to achieve an 8-star energy rating (in 2024) and has an estimated 10-year running cost of $923.65.
While the updated energy ratings are now out of a possible 10 stars, currently the highest on the market is 8 stars for these two models and another Hisense (a 503L Bottom Mount Fridge). But it’s likely more fridges and brands will achieve these ratings, or potentially higher, in the future.
Configuration and layout
Common options for fridge configurations include top mount, bottom mount, side-by-side and French door models. Choose the one that best suits your needs and consider the layout of shelves, drawers and compartments inside the fridge.
“Bottom mount and top mount units are still the most popular options, as they allow most people to avoid having to do any renovation work to increase the size of their cavities to fit a larger fridge than what was standard when their kitchen was built,” Adam said. He also notes that larger fridges, including French Door or side-by-side models “would be ideal for a family of five that does a weekly grocery shop.”
“Accessibility and ease of access is a key reason why we choose the fridges we do,” he said.
“A bottom mount refrigerator is more appropriate for somebody with mobility or accessibility issues, as the things you would regularly be removing from the fridge are up within eyesight and at arms length, rather than having to bend down. Side-by-side and multi-door fridges are also an alternative for people wanting a larger style fridge, but with a preference for doors rather than external drawers. If you’re cooking a lot more frozen foods, the larger capacity freezer you find in those two options will be of benefit.”
Features and functions
Consider the features and functions that are important to you. Some popular ones include adjustable shelves, humidity-controlled crisper drawers, ice makers, water dispensers, door-in-door access, temperature control and smart connectivity.
Price and budget
Determine your budget and explore the best-value fridges within that range. Just keep in mind, however, that compromising too much on quality may lead to future repair or replacement costs. That’s where considering the fridge brand can help you find the best choice for your home.
“The world’s leading brands tend to be the most popular due to their quality and functionality, including the likes of Westinghouse, LG, Fisher & Paykel and Haier,” Appliances Online category expert Adam Duggan said.
Maintenance
Consider the ease of cleaning and maintaining your fridge. Features such as spill-proof shelves, removable drawers and accessible condenser coils can make the upkeep much more convenient.
“A lot of issues with fridges start out relatively minor,” Adam told Better Homes & Gardens.
“The door seal and motor are probably going to be the most noticeable, as you’ll likely notice the fridge is failing to effectively cool like it did in the past. Refrigerator seals should be replaced every five to ten years. But if you notice an issue with the seal (it’s become unstuck in a section, is lifting or fraying in parts), you should try to get it replaced as soon as possible. If cold air is escaping from the fridge, the motor is going to be working overtime and under strain in an attempt to compensate.”
How we determine the best fridge brands in Australia
The Better Homes & Gardens team have developed a custom methodology to assess different fridge brands in Australia. To determine the best fridge brands, we consider these key criteria
- Design and features across the range of fridges available
- Energy efficiency (via the government’s Energy Rating Calculator)
- Price ranges and availability of fridges from each brand (not just with partners, but in general)
- Warranty and reliability details (from the brand, retailers, reviews, industry publications etc)
- Reviews and consumer insights, including our own hands-on experiences when possible
- Industry recognition and awards
We also consider other details, such as share-of-market, manufacturing location/s and established brand reputations. We determine the order these fridge brands based on an overall assessment of these criteria and the information available at the time.
