We’re floating on cloud nine today, because Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are officially engaged!
The couple announced the news via an Instagram post that read ‘Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.’ We’re not ashamed to admit we’re now poring over every little detail of the proposal, but to be honest, it’s the flowers we really can’t get over.
“The setting reminds me of The Secret Garden. It’s wild and free, and it’s hidden away in an intimate space. It’s stunning and romantic but still very personal,” says BHG stylist Nonci Nyoni. “I love the colour palette, too. The soft pinks and whites surrounded by all that greenery not only brighten up the otherwise dark forest-like setting but makes it feel like you’re walking through a dream,” says Nonci.
In an interview with The Jimmy & Nath Show with Emma, Travis’s father, Ed Kelce, revealed the couple’s engagement took place in the garden of Travis’ home.

Is there a hidden message behind Taylor Swift’s and Travis Kelce’s engagement flowers?
Roses were the most heavily featured flower in the whole arrangement, which is significant, as it’s widely assumed that roses are Taylor Swift’s favourite flower, featuring in the lyrics of songs ‘Blank Space’, ‘Maroon’, and ‘The Lucky One.’
It’s well known that roses are a potent symbol of love, beauty and friendship, but the other flowers chosen by Kelce for the arrangement are also significant.
White hydrangeas symbolise success and grace. Ranunculus are a popular choice for bridal arrangements as they’re associated with charm and beauty. Anemones often serve as a reminder to cherish life. Alliums represent new beginnings.

So, what do you get when you put all of this together?
“I think we can assume, from the colour and meaning behind the selection of flowers, that Travis and Taylor share pure admiration and affection for each other. The flowers speak to love and joy in the now, and for the future,” says Nonci.
The Secret Garden reference
Nonci isn’t the only one to pick up on the proposal setting’s Secret Garden vibes. In fact, the resemblance has gone viral amongst fans online. In the song ‘I Hate It Here’, Taylor sings, “I hate it here so I will go to the secret gardens in my mind.” Is this Travis’s way of saying he will be her safe place when life gets hard? If it is, this man listens!
Travis’s florists had front row seats
Another detail revealed by Travis’s father is that the florists and stylists preparing the scene actually had front row seats to the proposal … albeit, obscured by the bushes they were hiding behind. According to Ed, Taylor and Travis were due to head out for dinner when Travis suggested they go into the garden first for a glass of wine.
“They went out there, and I think she [Taylor] knew something was up because as she approached, as she walked out there, she could see there were a lot more flowers out there,” says Ed. “That was all decorated by people that help Travis out with a lot of things. They got it all ready and saw them [Taylor and Travis] coming and hid in the bushes so they weren’t part of it!”
Our stylist Nonci estimates that setting up the scene would have taken at least half a day for a team of four to five people. “It would have been all hands on deck, for sure!”

All of this is to say we’re so excited about this news and can’t wait to see what flowers the couple choose for their wedding day…
